Biography

Alain Soral, born in 1958 as Alain Bonnet, is a French-Swiss essayist, filmmaker, and far-right ideologue - best known for his antisemitic views. Soral claims to be both a nationalist and a left-wing ideologue, due to his Marxist beliefs. On the contrary, however, he presents himself as a "French National Socialist" and has a history of defending fascist leaders in the 20th century - particularly Italy’s fascist World War II leader - Benito Mussolini. Claiming to have been a member of the French Communist Party in the 1990s, he became part of Front National (the National Front party) in 2000 and later became part of their central committee.

Despite the National Front Party’s opposition to Marxist and communist ideals, Soral attempted to place social issues and some elements of Marxist ideals in the party’s national programme, allegedly leading the president of the party - Jean-Marie Le Pen to election score significantly less during his 2002 political breakthrough as a second-round finalist. Alain Soral left the party in 2009 and stood for the European elections in June 2009.

In 2007, along with former GUD members (a French far-right students' union), he founded the political association Egalite & Reconciliation (Equality and Reconciliation). The same year, he also launched KontreKulture, a publishing company that he uses to publish contemporary controversial papers. Soral is regularly condemned for defamation, antisemitic comments, inciting racial hatred, and holocaust denial. He was even sentenced to prison in 2019.

In July 2020, YouTube deleted Alain Soral’s two ERTV (Equality and Reconciliation) channels, for broadcasting “incentive to hatred content.”

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

April 2019: Alain Soral made comments after the fire in the Notre Dame Cathedral in April 2019 on the “Equality and Reconciliation” website stating that the fire was “deliberate” and was caused to carry out "a project of Masonic money and Jewish revenge" on the Ile de la Cité.

November 2016: Soral’s website published a drawing entitled “Chutzpah Hebdo” representing the face of Charlie Chaplin in front of the star of David, with the question “Shoah where are you?”. The publication doubts the existence of the Holocaust.

Alain Soral: “The question is not about who could or could not come to France, nobody should come to France”

Alain Soral: “There is no equality between men and women. Men are far more superior than women. They exist because they are beautiful or not. Historically, men did much more than women in terms of culture, philosophy and mathematics.”
