Biography

Abdul Rahman Abdul Karim is an Islamist Sunni preacher born in 1958 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He pursued his intermediate and secondary education at the Scientific Institute for Islamic and Arabic Sciences in Riyadh. In 1982, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic language and literature, then a Master’s degree in Islamic studies before pursuing a PhD in Islamic culture in 2009. Karim has made inciteful comments regarding women. These comments are outlined below in the “Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement” section.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

November 2016: When interviewed on Rotana Khalijiyya TV, Abdul Rahman Abdul Karim said that according to the Islamic law, women have to stay at home unless they are dying of hunger and that when a woman goes out to work “it detracts from the beauty of the home”. In the same interview, he suggested having “separate hospitals for men and women to avoid temptation”. He also said that no “God-fearing, reasonable man” can specialize in gynecology and obstetrics.
