Biography

McInnes moved to Canada as a child before migrating to the United States to pursue his career in politics. He is a dual citizen of Canada and the United Kingdom. McInnes was named a major figure in the New York hipster subculture during his tenure at Vice magazine, which he helped create, and rose to further prominence as a far-right activist after leaving the magazine. Not only is he a contributor to Taki’s Magazine and a former contributor to The Rebel Media, but he also made numerous appearances on Fox News and The Blaze television show. After leaving Vice Magazine, McInnes founded the website StreetCarnage.com in 2008 and co-founded the Rooster Advertising, where he served as the agency’s creative director. Most notably, McInnes is the founder of the Proud Boys, a neo-fascist, men's rights, and male-only group designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “general hate” organization.

McInnes was dismissed from Blaze Media and banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in 2018 for breaking terms of service relating to the promotion of violent extremist organizations and hate speech. McInnes' YouTube account was also suspended in June 2020 for breaching YouTube's hate speech policy by publishing a video named “glorifying and inciting violence against another person or group of people.”

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

August 2018: McInnes has been frequently accused of racism and of advocating white supremacy ideology. He allegedly hurled racist insults towards Susan Rice and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as Palestinians and Asians more broadly.

April 2018: McInnes labelled a substantial portion of Muslims as mentally sick and incestuous in April 2018, stating that “Muslims have a problem with inbreeding.” They tend to marry their first cousins... and this is a huge problem in the United States because when you have psychologically disturbed inbreds – which not all Muslims are, but a disproportionate number are – plus a hate book called the Koran, you have a recipe for disaster, you end up with a perfect recipe for mass murder.”

June 2017: During an interview with McInnes by NBC left-field, he stated that “I am not a fan of Islam, and I think it’s fair to call me Islamophobic”.

February 2017: McInnes stated in a lecture at New York University in February 2017, following a conflict between the Proud Boys and Antifa protestors: “Violence is unpleasant, but justifiable violence is pleasurable, and fighting solves everything. I want to see some bloodshed. I want to get punched in the face.” He claims to have solely pushed for self-defence.

May 2015: During a live segment on the Hannity show, McInnes stated that women were paid less in America “because they choose to because they’d rather attend their children’s piano recital class than choose to stay up all night working on a proposal”, he further added that “women are less ambitious than men, and are better suited at home”.

October 2013: Several media sources, including the Chicago Sun-Times, Independent Journal Review, Salon, Jezebel, The Hollywood Reporter, and Slate, have charged McInnes with sexism. McInnes stated at a panel interview in October 2013 that “people would be happier if women stopped trying to be males” and that feminism “has made women less happy.”
